O = origin of the source - where it comes from? author, date, type of publication, place WHO? WHEN? WHAT? WHERE? P = purpose of the source - what is the intention of the source? to inform, to convince, to inquire, to analyze, to offer a personal response (diary/memoir), a speech to the public) V = value - how useful is the source in offering an insight into a given topic/subject? Does it provide some understanding about a given topic/subject? L = limitation how reliable is the source? Is it objective or subjective? To what degree can it be trusted in order to understand a given topic/subject?
