Food Access Research Accessing healthy food is a challenge for many Americans – particularly in low-income neighborhoods, communities of color, and rural areas. Better access corresponds with healthier eating Access is associated with lower risk for obesity and other diet-related diseases. And another important aspect of our comprehensive approach to healthy food access is the support of our regional food system by supporting farmers at farmers markets, through our farm to school initiatives, and through our healthy food incentive programs which encourage the purchase of healthy and local foods. 29
