2 The y10 – 11 Curriculum Compulsory, 5 subjects, 35 hours per fortnight
Options, 3 subjects 15 hours, 5 hours each per fortnight

3 All qualifications except for GCSE equivalents –IT Sport Science – Business, Music and Graphics

4 Ebacc Means a 5 or more in English English Literature Maths
Sciences or Computer Science History or Geography MFL

5 Compulsory English and English Literature (7-11 hours),
Maths (7 hours), Science (double or separate hours), Double Science is called “combined” or “trilogy” 2 GCSEs Separate Sciences are called “single sciences” or “triple science” 3 GCSEs Non exam PE (4 hours), RE (3 hours –Sociology of Beliefs) Choices to contain 1 of the optional ebac subjects Total 35 out of 50 hours So Ebacc not compulsory

6 Government DFE advice ensure pupils “study the core academic subjects at GCSE, the subjects that keep your options open, and allow you to enter the widest ranges of careers and university courses.” The Secretary of State set out the Government’s view that a compulsory EBacc would enhance the chances of disadvantaged pupils….. For the EBacc to become the “default option” for all pupils, “achieving the government’s goal for 90% of pupils to be studying the vital Ebacc subjects of maths, English, science, a foreign language and either history or geography” with schools to determine the “small minority of pupils for whom taking the whole EBacc is not appropriate.”

7 Key Advice at Corsham So – no compulsory ebac yet, but moving towards DFE target Have to do ONE of French, German, Spanish, History, Geography or Computing (highlighted on form) Art and Textiles are the same GCSE – so only one of those two.

9 A thought about option choices – keeping A Level doors open
Many universities favour “Facilitating” A levels. Express choice of Russell Group Universities (top 24 in the UK) These are the subjects you can’t do at A level without having done the GCSE first A natural science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) A modern or ancient language English Literature (not Language) History Geography Maths and Further Maths

10 The Form The configuration of subjects in blocks comes from the survey, so it should fit the vast majority of combinations.
