4. THE LAW Tackling Discrimination
The Equality Act 2010 defines Race as a ‘protected characteristic’.
This means that it is illegal to discriminate anyone because of their race.
The Criminal Justice Act 1988 makes assault (the threat of violence) and battery (actual physical violence) illegal.
It is against the law to lie to the police or to prevent them from making their enquiries.
However, there is no law that says people have to tell the police if they believe that someone has committed a crime.
