2. Performing the sign test
Use the handout provided to have a go at analysing a set of data using the sign test.
The sign test is only used when a repeated measures (or matched pairs design) is used and you have nominal data.

3. Checking If your result is significant
Check to see whether your observed value is significant or not.
Use a significance table for the specific test you are using to find the critical value. To do this you need to know:
N (number of participants you used*)
P value (usually 5%)
Directional or non-directional hypothesis
Finally, compare the observed value to the critical (table) value. If the observed value is smaller than the critical (table value), your results are significant.
