1 Objective (Purpose) 1. To Invest the war effort through the sale of war bonds—loans from citizens to the government—or new taxes. 2. To conserve resources—such as food, oil, and steel—necessary to wage war 5. To produce/increase production: Create organizations to support the war effort or work jobs that will increase production for the war effort.

2 Tools Demonization - refer to any characterization of individuals, groups, or political bodies as evil Emotional Appeals - using images or words to appeal to emotions or feelings Name-Calling - using words or images to make-fun or demean another’s behavior or appearance Patriotic Appeals - images and symbols that represent patriotism Half-Truths or Lies - an image or statement that is seemingly true but is not the whole truth or lie Example: "I'm a really good driver. I have gotten only four speeding tickets"* This statement is true, but irrelevant if the speaker started driving a week ago. Catchy Slogans - slogans that catch one’s attention and sticks with them Humor or Cariacatures - over-exaggeration of figures characteristics to make-fun or demean their image
