2 Do you wish you were leaving to go on vacation tomorrow morning
Do you wish you were leaving to go on vacation tomorrow morning? If so, where do you wish you were going? Let’s make a list of what we need to do in order to get ready to leave on a vacation.

3 In this week’s lesson, we are going to talk about getting ready for a very special event, the second coming of Christ, and the preparations that need to be made for this event.

4 Get Ready, He’s Coming Back
Matthew 24:1–44 Connect Option 2 family theme: Return of Christ

5 THE BIG IDEA Jesus is coming again.

6 Great Disasters and Extensive Evangelism
Matthew 24:1–14

7 Great Disasters and Extensive Evangelism
Jesus described many events that mark the beginning of the trials that will come before His second coming. What are some examples of similar happenings going on right now? What must happen before the end comes? In what ways can we be involved in paving the way for Jesus’ coming?

8 Abomination and Deception
Matthew 24:15–28

9 Abomination and Deception
Regardless of the timing, Jesus described an awful time of tribulation and deception. How can Christians keep from being deceived by false teachers and false philosophies of our day? What would you tell a friend who becomes interested in a movement led by someone who claims to be the Messiah?

10 Expect the Unexpected Matthew 24:29–44

11 Expect the Unexpected Jesus made it clear His followers should be alert and ready for His coming, living as if He might come today. How can followers of Christ stay ready for His coming? Ponder the image of two people standing together and God takes one but leaves the other. How should that affect our compassion for the lost?

12 1 Be alert to false teaching.
False teaching may take on one of three approaches. Some may distort doctrine. Others may add to doctrine, and still others may subtract from biblical truth.

13 2 Expect to face difficult times.
Since Jesus told His followers they would face problems because of their association with Him, we should not be caught unaware.

14 3 Embrace the joy of the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
As we see some of these predictions unfold, we can be affirmed in our faith. Jesus was right; things are happening just as He said they would! We must now focus on the end of the story, realizing our ultimate redemption is nearing.

15 Consider the following question: Am I looking forward to seeing Jesus to the point that I say, “Lord Jesus, come quickly” or am I too caught up in the things of this world? What will not be present in Heaven? What will be present? Respond Option 1

16 Two actions will change the way we think, feel, and act
Two actions will change the way we think, feel, and act. First, when we seek first the kingdom, we look beyond our own situation and see the bigger picture. Second, when we continue to grow in our love for Jesus, He will become the object of our affections and we will long to be with Him. Respond Option 1
