3 What we will talk in this session?
Definition of Environment, Project & Protected Areas Accreditation & project proposal requirements PEPA 1997 & its salient features, Review guidelines for IEE/EIA & Provincial Environmental Acts ADB Safeguards Policy Statement & Over-reaching Objectives NDRMF Policy Statement, Environment & Social Management System NDRMF Approach towards Sustainability of Projects

4 Definition of Environment
Air, Water & Land All layers of atmosphere All organic and inorganic matter & living organisms The ecosystem & ecological relationship Buildings, structures, roads, facilities & works All social & economic conditions affecting community life The inter-relationship between any of the factor's in the above mentioned clauses

Protected areas are essential for biodiversity conservation, often providing habitat and protection from hunting for threatened & endangered species National Parks Wildlife Sanctuaries Game Reserves Ramsar Protected Wetlands

6 Accreditation Requirements
Potential FIPs Environment Policy Policy approval and disclosure Implementation (screening, categorization, impact assessment, mitigation, capacity building of staff, GRM & monitoring of mitigation measures)

7 Project Proposal Requirements
Project scope of work Environment screening checklist filled Project category is defined Regulatory studies are planned (EIA/IEE) Costing (regulatory studies+ compliance) Monitoring plan for compliance HR (Environment)

8 IEE/EIA Regulation Under PEPA regulations, the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) delegated the review of IEEs/EIAs to the provincial EPAs. Thereafter, the rules and regulations under the PEPA 1997 have been adopted by the provinces.
