LEARNING OBJECTIVES MUST– know about the different types of question in the ‘American West’ exam. SHOULD – understand how to answer ‘Comprehension and inference of Sources’ questions. COULD – plan and write an answer on what you can learn from Source A about the building of the railroads across America.

3 HOW TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ON COMPREHENSION OF SOURCES
Study Source A. What can you learn …? DO Write about what the Sources tell you – copy out lines or pick out details from the source to support your answer. Write about what you can guess from the source. DON’T Use your own knowledge –the Question doesn’t ask for it! Analyse if the sources are reliable – again, the Question doesn’t ask you to do this!

Simple statement. Offers a piece of information or states an unsupported guess. Example – a lot of men. Level Two = 3 – 4 Marks Developed statement. Makes a guess and supports it from the source. Example – isolation; hard physical work.
