2 1.Reason and Problem Semiconductor lasers are more and more important today. One of the most important applications is developed in optic fiber communication. I will research the best structure of VCSEL for plastic optical fiber(PMMA-d8) applied in communication.

3 2.Method and Step 1.I will use the simulate program PICS3D to design the best structure of VCSEL for plastic optical fiber(PMMA-d8). 2.I will compare the reflectivity of AlGaInP-based with AlGaAs-based distributed Bragg reflectors (DBR). 3.I will calculate the reflectivity of two kinds of DBR with Mathcad.

4 2.Method and Step 4.We will request factory to grow the best structure of AlGaInP-based VCSEL which we design. 5.We will get the spectrums of both VCSELs by photoluminescence(PL) and electroluminescence(EL) .

5 Expected Results I will finish comparison of the characteristics of both structures. I will finish experiments of EL , PL and the spectrums of reflectivity. I will design the best structure of VCSEL for PMMA-d8 and finish a complete report.
