The founder ST was defined as the ST with the greatest number of single-locus variants. Serogroups are represented by different colours. Heavy solid lines represent single-locus variants; light solid lines represent double-locus variants; heavy dotted lines represent triple-locus variants; light dotted lines represent quadruple-locus variants. The major clonal complexes (CC) are indicated in the picture. The colours of the halo surrounding the STs denote types that belong to the same CC. STs that vary by one allele in their multilocus sequence typing profiles (single locus variants) are arranged in circles around the primary founder sequence type.
