El Salvador signs the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime. 1 BACKGROUND Trafficking in Persons is typified in the Salvadoran Criminal Code, Art.367-B, and its aggravating factors, Art. 367-C, and the Police and Prosecutor’s Office are established. 2 2011 3 BACKGROUND 4 Executive Decree 90, the National Council Against Human Trafficking is established to address trafficking in persons in a comprehensive manner. The former Committee Against Human Trafficking implements prevention and awareness-raising actions. 5 BACKGROUND 6 2013 2012 A bill for a special law against trafficking in persons is submitted to the Legislative Assembly. Executive Decree 450, the National Policy Against Trafficking in Persons of El Salvador is developed. 2014 7 8 2015 BACKGROUND Through Legislative Decree 824, the Special Law Against Trafficking in Persons of El Salvador is approved with 81 votes in favour. The Special Law comes into effect in January and actions are initiated in the framework of the Special Law.
