1 Warm-Up

2 Analyzing Patterns 5.OA.B.3

3 Learning Target I can identify relationships between corresponding terms in two numerical patterns. I can generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. (numerical pattern is a list of numbers that follows a constant rule.) I can form ordered pairs consisting of corresponding terms from two numerical patterns and graph them. Repeat after me.

4 Our Goal Wanda went to the store and bought pencils and pens. Each pencil cost $1.00 and each pen cost $2.00. Complete the numerical pattern showing the cost of different amounts of pens and pencils. What is the relationship between the corresponding terms? Number of items bought 1 2 3 4 Pencils (cost) Pens (cost)

5 About Today This is the same skills as yesterday, but the questions could be in a variety of formats. You may be given charts or rules with patterns. You may be given scenarios You may be asked to pick an ordered pair that would fall in the pattern. Today, we are going to explore scenarios and picking an ordered pair using two numerical patterns.

6 You Help Me An ice cream parlor sells regular and kiddie scoops of ice cream. A kiddie scoop is $3.00 and a regular scoop is $5.00. Make a chart that will represent selling 1,2,3, and 4 scoops of each regular and kiddie scoops of ice cream. Step 1: Make a chart Step 2: Create the ordered pairs

7 Picking an ordered pair
An ice cream parlor sells regular and kiddie scoops of ice cream. A kiddie scoop is $3.00 and a regular scoop is $5.00. Wilma forms ordered pairs in the form of cost for (kiddie scoop, regular scoop) for the corresponding number of scoops sold. Which ordered pair could be one Wilma formed? (15, 30) (21, 35) (6, 15) (18, 35)

8 You Try and work with your partner (yellow/green)
Billy went to Walgreens to buy his folders and composition books for school. Each binder was $4.00 and each composition book was $3.00. Complete the chart. Select all the correct ordered pairs according to the patterns. Mark all that apply. Pattern A: start at 0 and add by 6 Pattern B: start at 20 and subtract by 2 a. (6, 16) b. (0, 20) c. (36, 8) d. (24, 14) e. (12, 16) Cost of binders Cost of composition book Ordered Pairs (0,0)

9 You Try Yellow: Windy formed two numerical patterns to compare the cost of drinks at the football game. Soft drinks cost $2 and Gatorade cost $3.00. Show what her patterns should look like if 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 of each drink was sold (soft drink, Gatorade). What is the relationship between corresponding terms? Green: Pete formed two numerical patterns to compare the cost of blow pops and dum-dum suckers. A blow pop sells for $2 and dum- dum’s sell for $1. What could the two numerical patterns look like if he sold 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 of each? (blow pops, dum-dum). What is the relationship between corresponding terms? Create ordered pairs with corresponding terms and plot the ordered pairs

10 If I am correct, say “Ready to ROLL”. If I am incorrect, drop the mic.
Evaluate My Work Tickets to a movie cost $6.00 for a child and $10.00 for an adult. I created a chart to show the two numeric patterns. Which ordered pair could represent the cost of a child tickets to adult tickets? a. (30, 40) b. (36, 60) c. (24, 50) d. ( 48, 70) Child’s ticket Adult’s ticket Ordered Pairs (0, 0) 6 10 (6, 10) 12 20 (12, 20) 18 30 (18, 30)

11 Prove IT!!! Can You Hit The Target?
I can identify relationships between corresponding terms in two numerical patterns. I can generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. I can form ordered pairs consisting of corresponding terms from two numerical patterns and graph them. Prove IT!!!

12 Group Work Corner One: take your pencil to corner one and begin. Work together and then complete your exit ticket. Corner Two: take your pencil to corner two and begin. Work together and then complete your exit ticket. Corner Three: take your pencil to corner three and begin. Work together and then complete your exit ticket. Corner Four: take your pencil to corner four and begin. Work together and then complete your exit ticket.

13 Group Work Corner One & Two will complete the practice and problem solving page from iReady (pg ) five questions Corner Three & Four: Common Core Progress Math Book pages 32 and 33. Four problems NEED TO GET THESE!!!!

14 Exit Ticket Wanda went to the store and bought pencils and pens. Each pencil cost $1.00 and each pen cost $2.00. Complete the numerical pattern showing the cost of different amounts of pens and pencils. What is the relationship between the corresponding terms? Number of items bought 1 2 3 4 Pencils (cost) Pens (cost)
