1 Aim: What are Regional Wind Systems
Do Now: Compare and contrast High pressure systems to Low pressure systems. Low Pressure High Pressure

2

3 I. Regional Winds Caused by differences in pressure which are a result of difference in temperature. Look at the cover of your ESRT, Specific Heat of Common Materials. If the land is made of granite, what is the lands specific heat? What is the specific heat of water? Land (Granite) = 0.79 joules/gram Which material will take longer to heat-up? Water = 4.18 joules/gram

4 A. Sea Breeze During the day…
- land heats-up faster, creating a low pressure area above it. - the water is cooler, creating a high pressure area above it. wind blows from the high over the water to the low over the land, creating a sea breeze.

5 B. Land Breeze At night… -the land cools faster, creating a high pressure area above it. - the water is warmer since it heated all day, creating a low pressure area above it. wind blows from the high over the land to the low over the sea, creating a land breeze.
