6 Davidic Covenant—an “everlasting covenant”

7 Davidic Covenant—an “everlasting covenant”
David called it “everlasting covenant”—”for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow” (2 Sam. 23:5)

8 Davidic Covenant—an “everlasting covenant”
David called it “everlasting covenant”—”for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow” (2 Sam. 23:5) After the united twelve tribes of Israel divided into two warring nations—Israel and Judah—Abijah (Solomon’s grandson), in an attempt to avert war and become united once again, said: “Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom of Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?” (2 Chron. 13:5)

9 Davidic Covenant—an “everlasting covenant”
Isaiah said: “Ho, every one that thirseth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price . . . “Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. “Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. “Behold, thou shalt call a nation [that] thou knowest not, and nations [that] knew not thee shall run unto thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel; for he hath glorified thee.” (Isa. 55:1, 3-5)

10 Davidic Covenant—an “everlasting covenant”
Ezekiel said: “And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations, neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all . . . “Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions . . . “And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them. . .

11 Davidic Covenant—an “everlasting covenant”
“And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant for ever: and my servant David shall be their prince for ever. “Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore. “My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” (Ezek. 37:22-27)

12 Davidic Covenant—the Promises

13 Davidic Covenant—the Promises
“the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house” (2 Sam. 7:11)

14 Davidic Covenant—the Promises
“the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house” (2 Sam. 7:11)—the LORD will establish David a dynasty (i.e., his posterity will rule over Israel)

15 Davidic Covenant—the Promises
“the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house” (2 Sam. 7:11)—the LORD will establish David a dynasty (i.e., his posterity will rule over Israel) “And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. “He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.” (2 Sam 7:12-13)

16 Davidic Covenant—the Promises
“the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house” (2 Sam. 7:11)—the LORD will establish David a dynasty (i.e., his posterity will rule over Israel) “And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. “He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.” (2 Sam 7:12-13) (Solomon, son of David and Bathsheba, will become king of Israel, and through his posterity will the dynasty proceed.)

17 Davidic Covenant—the Promises
“I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: “But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. (2 Sam. 7:14-15) (Have dual meaning—[1] He will become as my firstborn son; [2] I will treat him like a son—if he transgresses, I will chasten him as any father would, but because of my mercy [Heb. Hesed] I will not reject him, as I did King Saul, his posterity will become kings and queens, priests and priestesses)

18 Davidic Covenant—the Promises
“And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.” (2 Sam. 7:16)

19 Davidic Covenant—the Promises
“And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.” (2 Sam. 7:16) (Sums up the Davidic covenant—From David will come Israel’s kings and queens, forever.”)
