2 Cohesive devices – Conjunctions
Remember: a clause must have an active verb. Conjunctions can be used as cohesive devices. Conjunctions join clauses. The links create cohesion by joining clauses and explaining how they are joined. Conjunctions can give meaning to the links, to do with… time place cause condition contrast when while since as before where wherever because so as since if unless even if although though whereas while

Conjunctions can be used as cohesive devices. Without them, writing is disjointed. With conjunctions, a text has more cohesion. Eric took the frog home with him because he did not know what else to do. He found a shoe box and he made air holes in it. Eric put the frog in the box then he hid it under his bed. He lay on his bed while he thought about what to do. Although he had conjured up the frog, he did not know if it belonged to him.
