Mini Lesson for National History Day Participants Fall 2018

2 What is an annotated Bibliography?
A bibliography is a list of sources you used when you researched a topic. They are also sometimes called “works cited.” (MLA Format) An annotation is a summary and/or an evaluation of a source. Therefore………..

3 An annotated Bibliography is……
A list of sources that includes a summary and/or an evaluation of each source. It helps reviewers of your work to see what you have found while researching and how you have evaluated the worth of those resources to include them in your project.

4 Format: Use your NHD Packet to Guide you
3 main parts include: Citation of the resource, a short Summary of the resource and then the Evaluation of the worthiness of that resource in your project. (THE WHY!)

5 Annotated Bibliography Guide Sheet:
Take a look at this form that helps you to record the important data for each resource you are using. It has been done for you

This video gives a good overview. However, it was created with specific requirements for a teacher’s class. Make sure you re-read the requirements for the National History Day project instead.

7 Adding in your Primary and Secondary Sources
Make sure that you add in your annotated bibliography what classification each resource is. (Is it a primary resource or a secondary resource? Why?)
