1 Warm UP FILL-IN-THE-BLANK
Today is Thursday, September 20, 2012 Homework: Complete “Chapter 2 Review and Test Prep” questions 1-20 found on pages in your textbook. Do this in your Science Notebook. FINISH LAB QUESTIONS FOR MONDAY. Warm UP FILL-IN-THE-BLANK Complete the following chart in your Science Notebook (don’t forget to write today’s date at the top) Organelles _________ Tissues ________ Organ Systems

2 Thursday, September 20, 2012 Standards/Objective: TLW demonstrate an understanding of how body systems interact by using and sketching the model of bones and muscles working to move an arm from pages 50 to 51 in textbook. Warm-up: Review the hierarchy of: Organelles  cells  tissues  organs  systems Instruction: Now, organ systems also work together to perform life processes Bones form the skeletal system. Muscles work together to form muscular system. But the skeletal and muscular system work together to help you move. Muscles attached to your bones allow your bones to move, like your arm Muscles always work in pairs. When one flexes (contracts), the other extends (relaxes). In your arm, you have your biceps and triceps. Point this out on your arm. Guided Practice: LW put together their model arm (TG p ). In your notebooks, draw a diagram of what your model arm looks like. Muscles only work by pulling As a group, LW try to move their model arm by keeping the upper arm still LW try to make their arm wave. What muscles allow them to wave? Independent Practice: LW complete lab question sheet independently and turn in Evaluation: Closure: Meeting individual needs: Homework: Complete “Chapter 2 Review and Test Prep” on pages in textbook (all questions:1-20)

3 Organ systems work together to perform life processes within an organism
Bones form the skeletal system and muscles work together to form the muscular system, but the skeletal and muscular system work together to help you move. Muscles attached to your bones allow your bones to move, like your arm Everybody move your arms How are you able to do that? What exactly are your muscles doing when you move your arms? Can you explain?

4 Muscles ONLY work by pulling (contracting)
Muscles always work in pairs. When one flexes/pulls (contracts), the other extends (relaxes). Muscles ONLY work by pulling (contracting) In your arm, you have your biceps and triceps. Before I point these muscles out, who can show me where they are on your arm?

5 Now for the lab….. Follow the directions on pages to build your model arm with the person sitting beside you. Each student will complete a lab question sheet to be turned in at the end of class (you will work together, but please turn in your own sheet)

6 FINISH THE LAB QUESTIONS FOR MONDAY – OR TURN THEM IN NOW IF YOU ARE COMPLETELY FINISHED
