1 RCACF Flypaper The Official Monthly Newsletter
Remote Control Assoc of Central Florida “Marvelous March”, 2017 Cover Photo : Steve Homenda readies for his maiden jet flight. For years we would see Steve flying his pattern plane. Practicing set after set. Then, one day we saw him do something that seemed uncharacteristic for Steve. He bought a jet. Not a turbine style, but a pretty darned nice BVM ducted fan F16. We all watched to see if it was just a phase that he might be going through. Week after week he flew getting better and more comfortable. Then, today he shows up with a pristine BVM Bobcat which he purchased from our very own Greg Foushi. It’s a beautiful red and white Navy paint scheme outfitted with a JetMunts VT-80 turbine. The picture above was Steve all ready to taxi out for his maiden flight. The jet was running when this picture was taken. He was waiting for several planes in the pattern to land. This would assure him of an open airspace to stretch this shiny new planes legs. The flight went great. Perfect takeoff, nice uneventful flight. It only needed 3 clicks of right aileron. The wind changed direction just as Steve dropped the gear for his downwind approach so he decided to not take any chances and walked down to the other end of the runway to change his landing direction. Smart choice for his first landing of this red and white beast. The landing was smooth and straight. It’s hard to beat the Bobcat for its forgiving flight characteristics. Excellent job Mr. Steve!

2 Step Up Support Your Club
John Foushi President Stepping Up: At our February Board Meeting, some of us said that we were not going to run for election in I personally have been involved with serving on the board for many years. Other board members are moving, don’t have the time, etc. So, this brings us to the question, “who is going to step up” and serve on the 2018 Executive Board? We need to continue with good leadership and keep moving our club forward. Many of you have many talents that can guarantee a Step Up Support Your Club successful future for our club. Therefore, I am asking on behalf of all the past, present and future members of RCACF for your service. I would like to invite you to come to a board meeting and watch what’s going on and the issues that we discuss. After you have been to a few board meetings and you think you can serve, then make it known. You can also serve as an assistant. February Work Party: We had a great turnout of members for our Work Party. Those 22 members rolled up their sleeves and accomplished a lot in a short time. They built two wooden picnic tables, installed a handicap ramp on the north end of the club house, installed a LED motion light on the food hangar, installed wiring for the new exhaust fan in the food hangar and installed a wall clock. I can’t thank those members enough for giving us a big hand with some big projects. I don’t know if it was the amount of work we had to do that brought out all those members or was it the fact that Bo Swope and his Son made Bar-B-Que Ribs!! At any rate, all was good. Again, “Thanks Guys”! Member’s Complaint: This past month, I received an from a member complaining about the behavior of two members that got into an argument at the flying field. The two members were yelling and swearing very loudly. He went on to say there were about six other members that witnessed this disgusting display of behavior, including his six-year-old grandson. I won’t go into detail as to how, what and why they were arguing. His letter stated that RC flying is a family hobby and gentleman like behavior should be expected out of every member and demanded by every board member to ensure we have a family atmosphere at all times when at the field. This member also added that he may not continue his membership at RCACF. I have spoken to the two members that were arguing and they have been told that if we hear of this type of behavior again, their membership will be terminated. Our By-Laws Article III Membership, part 4 Expulsion, states expulsion from the Club for any unacceptable behavior by any member. The Club does not condone any acts of intimidation, physical abuse, intoxication or other such activity. John Foushi

4 Why do people join RCACF?
Al Cooper Membership Chairman Why do people join RCACF? The obvious response to this question is – “to fly!” Yes, the club is a great place to learn to fly and to continue to learn after. How does a member “continue to learn” at RCACF? Learning the basics of building RC aircraft and learning to take off, do basic stunts and land is the obvious first step. After that, the pilot should learn: Consistency – be able to consistently take off (preferably from the center line), fly basic patterns, set up the approach and land as smoothly as possible based on weather conditions. Safety – be able to work with your aircraft in a safe manner without endangering yourself or others around you. Safety is a major concern at RCACF and all members are encouraged to use proper care both at the club and elsewhere when working with your aircraft. More advanced aeronautics – advance beyond the simple patterns learned during initial instruction. These patterns can include loops (inside and outside), figure 8s (horizontal, vertical, inside, outside), Immelmann turns, barrel rolls (4 or even 8 point), etc. How many advanced patterns that you learn will be up to the individual pilot? Our club instructors are more than happy to help even experienced pilots learn new movements. Another source of learning additional aeronautic moves is by simply watching the experts fly. We have many members of the club who are truly experts in pattern flying. Watch them and learn. New ways to build – many members rely on Ready to Fly or Almost Ready to Fly models. However, some go beyond in building kits or even scratch building. The club membership consists of people using all of these methods and various derivatives of these methods. The expertise is already in the club and most members are quite willing to help someone learn new ways of building models. Another major reason for joining RCACF is – “camaraderie!” Many members come out to the field for no other reason than to sit around with other members and watch yet other members fly. This type of activity often leads to applause for obvious successful flights or jeers for those not performances not quite up to expectations. But what this really entails is the “bonding” of members to other members and the formation of “friendships”. I’m sure that there are other reasons for joining RCACF, whether it be “to get away from a spouse for a few hours” or to “get some fresh air” or whatever. Whatever the reason, RCACF is a great place to spend time and have fun. Al Cooper

The first camera is a snapshot of the center parking area and the wind-sock/flagpole. It is viewed on the home page of RCACF.com. It doesn’t require any special applications or logins. It is a high-res snapshot that updates every 60 seconds. Windsock WebCam The second camera is the security DVR. It has 4 small cameras that point in different directions from the clubhouse roof. It does require special access parameters and passwords. It also requires a special application if being accessed from a Smartphone. These cameras are motion video, but due to the limited bandwidth of our internet connection there are a couple of items to note. Video is jerky or freeze at times. Soft looking or pixilated image. Video cams are lower resolution than the website snapshot cam. An with full instructions went out to all members.
