Presentation on theme: "My spectrum of generalisation"— Presentation transcript:

1 My spectrum of generalisation
I have done this before but I feel like a beginner again ACTIVITY G. YOUR WRITING PROMPTS PAGE

2 Event: What happened? Do you have to see how something should be done for each stage? When part of a task changes will you get stuck and need everything fully explained to continue? How about when you are working in a group? Is it complicated trying to work as part of a team and figure out what to say and do each time?

3 Repeat: What happened the next time I had to repeat this task/conversation?
Will you get stuck on an activity or forget what to say? Do you ask for more support than other people or do you pretend to know what to do? Have you had to copy other people? Were you constantly on alert in case you made a mistake or they realised you were copying them? Did this make you feel anxious? Are you a perfectionist? Does it annoy you to feel as though you aren’t in control or are less than perfect when struggling with generalising your knowledge?

4 Meaning: What did being unable to generalise mean for me?
Does everything seem like hard work when it is fun or easier for other people? Do you lose confidence in yourself? How do you feel about leaving school and getting a job or coping with leaving home and going to university? Do simple daily activities seem overwhelming? Is it difficult to keep relearning things and progress smoothly and as expected? Does this make you feel different? Can you predict when difficulties generalising will happen? Is this helpful or does it not make any difference?

5 Effect: How did other people react?
Do people lose confidence in your ability to work independently? Will they trust you to take control of an activity? Do they try and take over what you are doing? Are they willing to share their knowledge until you pick things up? Do they ever make you feel stupid or as if you shouldn’t be given a chance or as much responsibility?

6 Strategies: What would help me to generalise?
How many times does it take you to absorb and remember how to do something? When something then changes is one explanation/attempt sufficient or do you need multiple to be able to adapt and deal with the changes? Have you ever been given a buddy/mentor to guide you through things? Is this an effective way of learning what to do? Are you comfortable with this sort of help? Or would you rather work on your own to figure things out without anyone mentioning what you can or can’t do? Does having attention on you make it harder to relax and think or try things?
