5 Reporting under 1970s and 1980s legislation
Legal basis: Decision 95/337/EEC (questionnaires relating to Directives in the water sector): reports on 76/464/EEC Dangerous Substances Directive 82/176/EEC /513/EEC /156/EEC Daughter Directives to 76/464/EEC /491/EEC /280/EEC 78/659/EEC Fish Water Directive 2006/44/EC Shellfish Water Directive (ex-79/923/EEC) 80/68/EEC Groundwater Directive 75/440/EEC Surface Water Directive 79/869/EEC Surface Water Daughter Directive on Sampling and Analysis Reporting under the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC Legal basis: articles 5, 8 and 15 of Directive 2000/60/EC Continue to be in force; repeal only by Repealed by

6 Comparison old legislation vs. WFD
Scope of reporting Comparison old legislation vs. WFD Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC: Comprehensive monitoring and reporting on all waters; monitoring obligations in force since Directive 78/659/EEC 2006/44/EC 80/68/EEC 76/464/EEC Daughter Directives to 76/464/EEC Next reporting cycle under Directive 91/692/EEC to start , for the years

7 Commission initiative
on streamlining Objective: avoiding double efforts on reporting under Decision 95/337/EEC, and under the WFD, putting pressure on limited resources; Path: providing Member States the option to use WFD reporting instead of the old reporting provisions, by inserting a sentence to that end at the end of the relevant questionnaires.

8 Reporting on Groundwater Directive
Example Reporting on Groundwater Directive “(Transitional arrangements) Before 22 December 2013, Member States may carry out monitoring and reporting in accordance with articles 5, 8 and 15 of Directive 2000/60/EC instead of carrying them out in accordance with the above provisions.”  Regulatory Committee under Directive 91/692/EEC on 7 June 2007 unanimously supported Commission initiative, and agreed procedural follow-up under written procedure.

9 Water Directors are invited
to take note of the reports to support efforts within their countries to underpin these agreed initiatives Forthcoming Water Directors Meeting (Lisbon) will discuss the future draft work programme for Working Group D which will relate and combine these various ongoing activities.
