2 Do Now (10 mins) Use your textbooks to locate the readings and complete APPARTS for each Remember: you will only have 15 minutes to analyze 7 documents on the AP exam Page 771 TV and the Public Interest Page 907 Columbine Shootings Page 915 Countdown Y2K Page 925 9/11 Memories

3 Group Discussion (30 mins)
In your table groups, you will discuss the following questions Each person should take their own notes Beginning with the leader, take turns speaking going around the table to the left (clockwise) until everyone has shared on the first question Then, the person to the leader’s left begins a new round for the second question, and so on (spend about 3 minutes per question) Make sure you are pointing to the text to support your claims and that you are disagreeing respectfully After 15 minutes, the teacher will open the discussion to whole class for the other 15 minutes, so be ready to share

4 Group Discussion Q’s (3 mins. each)
According to these readings, has television had a positive or negative impact on the United States? Does television unite or conform Americans? Do the other three articles support or refute Minnow’s opinion that television is a “wasteland”? According to these readings, does television journalism (news) investigate or simply report? “If it bleeds, it leads,” is a motto for television news. Has television affected the content of your textbooks?

5 Concept IDs—Technology (40 mins)
Use your group members, binders, and textbooks to make sure you have technology cards for each time period. Use lined paper cut into 6 pieces if you run out of index cards. Help yourself to the markers and supplies. Make sure each card contains: Concept definition General significance of the concept Specific example from that time period Historical significance of that example

6 Essay Prompts—Technology (30 mins)
Directions are on your handout. Choose three of the following prompts: Compare the effect television had on the 1932 and 1960 elections. How has technology and transportation facilitated each wave of expansion in U.S. history? How did the cotton gin impact America politically, economically, socially, and environmentally? To what extent does the Market Revolution mark the beginning of the early women’s rights era?

7 Exit Slip—Short Answer (10 mins)
Go to the google form to submit your exit slip Remember: you do not need a thesis, but you must write in complete sentences (no bullet points) Prompt: Briefly explain how a different technological development impacted American culture in THREE of the following areas: Architecture Education Communication Fashion Religion Equality
