ASME has policies that restrict most people from speaking on behalf of ASME (also known as “the Society”) and from speaking on behalf of Standards Committees that develop ASME Codes

3. Speaking on Behalf of ASME and Standards Committees
Under appropriate conditions, only the C&S Senior Vice President and C&S Vice Presidents are authorized to speak on ASME C&S matters.
ASME Staff has the primary responsibility to provide external communications.

4. Speaking on Behalf of ASME and Standards Committees
Only the Standards Committees may establish the content of their Codes. Therefore the Standards Committee is authorized to formulate and issue interpretations.
NO individual Standards Committee member - including Chairs, ASME Staff, and recognized experts - may issue independently-formulated interpretations.
Reference to previously approved and published interpretations is permitted by individuals.
