1 EDAMIS: report on two outstanding issues
Hakan Linden and Michael Whatling Unit B5: Metadata warehouse, SDMX implementation, user services ITDG Item 8 DIME-ITDG February 2015

2 EDAMIS data transfer infrastructure
Delivery method: using the EWA client In all NSIs, the ECB and some national Central Banks, the EDAMIS client EWA is installed (i.e. in total 47 organisations); The last available version of EWA is the version 3.1.5; The versions used by NSIs: or higher; 2.9.9; 2.9.8; As communicated to SISAI 2014 and EVUG 2014: all NSIs should use version or higher; Support for versions pre-3.1 will be phased out in first half of 2015!

3 Upgrade to EDAMIS Web Application 3
Upgrade to EDAMIS Web Application 3.1 and EWA / EDAMIS Web Portal synchronisation Benefits of upgrading EWAs to version 3.1 Significant savings in development, maintenance and support (cost and labour); Possibility to streamline EDAMIS server and improve performance; Possibility to introduce improvements and functionalities on a timely basis.

4 Upgrade to EDAMIS Web Application 3
Upgrade to EDAMIS Web Application 3.1 and EWA / EDAMIS Web Portal synchronisation Benefits of EWA/EWP synchronisation Eurostat Domain Managers can view and manage national user rights for their domains; National users can transmit files via both their EWA and the EWP (back-up solution); National users can download reports (transmissions, rights, etc.) from the EWP; EDAMIS Support can assist national users more efficiently.

5 Status report on the migration of EWAs
EWA – 3.1.5: 28 installations EWA – 2.9.9b: 8 installations Three NSIs use exclusively the EDAMIS Web Portal (HR, LV, IS); Upgrade in four countries (CH, LU, NO, UK) scheduled for February or March 2015; Upgrade in one country (CZ) underway - specific Linux configuration is required; Remaining three NSIs (BA, ES, TR) will be contacted in February 2015.

6 Status report on the synchronisation in NSIs
Synchronised: 28 installations Non-Synchronised: 8 installations Three NSIs use exclusively the EDAMIS Web Portal (HR, LV, IS); Synchronisation of three installations (SE, SK, UK) is scheduled for February 2015; Work is underway towards the synchronisation of two installations (BE, MK); Remaining three NSIs (AL, BA, XK) will be contacted in March 2015.

7 The list of Other National Authorities (ONA)
According 223/2009, the NSI has the role of coordinator at national level and shall act as contact point for Eurostat in statistical matters; The NSI is the competent authority to assess whether or not a particular statistics producer is to be included in the list of NSI and ONA responsible for the production of European statistics; The list of ONAs is published online on the Eurostat website (as foreseen in Art 5(2) of the Regulation; Any changes to the list of ONAs should be communicated to Eurostat.

8 ONAs vs entities sending data via EDAMIS
In 2014 the ESS Partnership Group discussed the cooperation between the ESS and Other National Authorities (ONAs); The differences between the official ONA list and the entities registered in EDAMIS were addressed; The ESS PG meeting in June 2014 proposed improvement actions mainly concerning the coordination process; The EDAMIS and Validation Services User Group (EVUG) meeting discussed these actions in October 2014.

9 Improvement actions - proposal
NSIs shall be notified when data are sent by an ONA to Eurostat: an update of the registration process for ONAs is needed in EDAMIS; Eurostat shall progressively refuse to accept data sent by entities which are not on the official ONA list: if entities which are not on the official ONA list are sending data, a procedure needs to be established to alert Eurostat domain managers and the national TCOs with the aim to include the respective ONAs in the official list as soon as possible.

10 Improvement actions - proposal
The list of ONAs and the entities sending data to Eurostat via EDAMIS will be revised to include a third column specifying the data sets sent by each entity; The mandate off the TCOs shall be revised to ensure effective communication within the NSI and between the NSI, the ONAs and Eurostat. Eurostat will report back on these issues to the ESS PG at its meeting in March 2015.
