Business and Technology Unit 1 - Employability Skills

2 Standard BMA- BT-1 Demonstrate employability skills required by business and industry.

3 Introduction The purpose of this lesson is to identify these eight generic employability skills required for participation in the world of work. Employability Skills include: Communication, Teamwork, Problem Solving, Self Management, Planning and Organizing, Technology and Lifelong Learning.

Communication Productivity Character Organizational Skills Accountability Attitude Appearance Cooperation/Teamwork Attributes

5 Vocabulary Terms Employability Skills good work habits and
attitudes that help you succeed in a career Communication sharing thoughts, opinions, and information with other people Work Ethics standards of behavior people, groups, or society believe to be right and moral Cooperation/Teamwork you understand the importance of working cooperatively with others

6 Vocabulary Terms Productivity the state or quality of manufacturing
something Character sharing thoughts, opinions, and information with other people Attitude settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something Appearance the way that someone or something looks.

7 Vocabulary Terms Organization Skills plans and qualities
needed in order to be able to organize your time, deadlines and productivity. Attributes usually good quality or feature that someone or something has. Accountability the fact or condition of being accountable; responsibility. Workplace Environment Location where a task is completed

8 Employability Skills Skills that you develop over time that are vital to the workplace.

9 Communication The ability to get our message across to others productively.

10 Teamwork The ability to work in and understand the group process

11 Problem solving The ability to contribute to productive outcomes.

12 Self-Management The ability to set and renew personal and professional goals that will lead to satisfaction and growth.

13 Planning and Organizing
The ability to manage all tasks through calculated preparation.

14 Technology The ability and capacity to integrate technology into all workplaces.

15 Lifelong Learning The ability to reflect your learning style, your learning needs and the learning needs of your workplace.

16 Concept Questions What is the difference between a skill and an attribute? What skills and attributes do employers want? Why are employability skills important? Where can you learn these skills? What out of school activities will help with these skills?

17 Brainstorm Activity Make a list of the subjects you take this semester. Identify which of the employability skills may be developed in these subjects. For example: English – communication and teamwork skills; Math….

18 Homework: Complete Vocabulary Crossword Puzzle.
