5 Speakers or On-site Visits
We plan to invite a restaurant inspector to speak about food safety and enforcement of health regulations. Students will identify roles of the inspector, food safety rules and problems in restaurants, and consequences of food safety violations. We plan to invite a restaurant manager to speak about specific food safety procedures and policies, plus career opportunities. We may visit a health department or restaurant to learn about food safety practices and food service operations.

6 News Reports Activity Clip and post pictures of foods from magazines or newspapers that are served in restaurants or other establishments. List safe food handling procedures food service workers should follow in preparing each item. Research a recent outbreak of foodborne illness in the news. How many individuals were affected? What was the source of the outbreak? What could have been done to prevent such an occurrence?

7 Explore Career Opportunities Activity
Students, go to Explore jobs and career opportunities within your state and local area, and compare these to other states or cities. Identify careers within both the public and private sector. Identify educational and training requirements for various positions.

8 Case Studies & More Activities
