6 Body Fat Chart…are you Healthy?

7 Why is Blood Pressure so important?
Blood pressure measures if you are potentially going to have heart disease or a heart attack. High blood pressure can be reversed. Eating healthy and exercising will help you avoid high blood pressure.

8 What do the Numbers Mean?
The top number is systolic blood pressure. Pressure on your arteries when your heart is beating. The bottom number is the diastolic blood pressure. Pressure on your arteries when your heart is between beats.

9 Is your Blood Pressure Normal?

10 Which numbers are of Concern?
Really, your Systolic blood pressure can fluctuate throughout the day due to : Your emotions Consuming caffeine/alcohol A full bladder Talking Systolic is generally not a worry…but DIASTOLIC is a huge indicator of high blood pressure!

11 Diastolic Pressure The bottom number being elevated is a HUGE problem!
80 is considered normal 90 is hypertension!!! Scary!!! If you diastolic is over 90, you have to change your lifestyle IMMEDIATELY!!!

12 How to Lower Your Diastolic Blood Pressure
Lose extra pounds and watch your waistline. Blood pressure often increases as weight increases. Exercise regularly. Eat a healthy diet. Reduce sodium in your diet. Limit the amount of alcohol you drink. Quit smoking. Cut back on caffeine. Reduce your stress.

13 Chambers of the Heart Blue area=Deoxiginated blood.
Notice how the left ventricle has a thicker cardiac wall. Why do you think this is so? Red area=Oxigenated blood.

14 Heart Rate: Why does it matter?
Slower heart rate = More tidal volume (a.k.a. blood flow) Higher heart rate = Less tidal volume. Which is better health wise? Answer: Slower as it indicates a more healthy person.

15 Normal Heart Rate Healthy Range = 80-100
High = Over 100 bpm (tachycardia) Low = Below 60 bpm (bradycardia)

16 Blood Pressure Explained: Video
If your arteries are blocked in or around your heart, what condition does this cause? What is the, “Silent Killer?” What deadly scenario exists if your arteries are, “diseased” and a piece of fatty tissue/clotted blood breaks off in your blood stream?

17 Muscular Strength Long Jump, Squat, Vertical Jump, Leg Press, Push-ups, Sit-ups and Cardio Endurance are baselines to where you are starting. At the end of the semester, we will measure these again to see if there are any changes…positive or negative. Same concept for the measurements of your body.
