6. What is a metaphor?
A figure of speech which makes a comparison that is less obvious than a simile (there is no like or as)
Typically compares two things that are unrelated but share some common characteristics
Example: The skies of his future began to darken
Meaning: Darkness is a threat; therefore, this
implies that the coming times are going to be hard for him.

9. What is an extended metaphor?
A comparison between two unlike things that continues throughout a series of sentences in a paragraph or lines in a poem.
Example: Shakespeare’s As You Like It
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts”

10. Halsey - Colors
“Everything is blue His pills, his hands, his jeans And now I'm covered in the colors pull apart at the seams And it's blue And it's blue
Everything is grey His hair, his smoke, his dreams And now he's so devoid of color He don’t know what it means And he's blue And he's blue”
Throughout this song, Halsey uses the extended metaphor of color to describe her relationship and what is around her
