Left side items Right side items Intro to energy Brainpop vocab (P__) Intro to Energy notes (P__) In question 10.16 Blank Pendulum diagram Potential/Kinetic notes

3 Potential and Kinetic Energy (Right) 10.16
What is potential E? What is kinetic E? What is the relationship between potential and kinetic energy? 1. Potential energy- E. that an object has due to its position. 2. Kinetic energy- E. an object has due to its movement. 3. The total amount of E. in the system is equal to all its PE and all of its KE added together Expressed mathematically as (TE = PE + KE). In a closed system the PE and KE are changing (i.e., transforming between the two forms), but the total energy remains constant.

5 Where does the pendulum have the most PE?
Where does the pendulum have the most KE? What is happening to the E as the pendulum swings from side to side?

7 Exit slip A hairdryer converts electrical energy into
A. chemical E. B. electrical E. C. nuclear E. D. thermal E.  2. Household appliances convert electricity into one or more different forms of energy. An electric fan can best be described as converting electrical energy into A. heat, sound, and mechanical. B. heat, nuclear, and chemical. C. chemical, nuclear, and light D. sound, light, and mechanical. 3. Potential energy is A. Stored E B. Moving E C. Stored and moving E D. loss of E 4. As the ball of a pendulum reaches its height, it has… A. No potential E B. All Kinetic E C. Potential E changing to Kinetic E D. Chemical E
