1 Mile Point Restriction
On outgoing tides, swirling currents at the intersection of the Intracoastal Waterway and St. Johns River impede navigation for deep draft vessels. Because of the restriction at Mile Point, large ships can only enter the harbor about 30 percent of the time.

2 Mile Point Project Cost: $40 million ($2M design / $38M construction)
Benefits from Mile Point fix: Total TEUs: 340,000 TEUs New jobs: 1,065 direct jobs with companies doing work at Jacksonville’s port 1,058 induced jobs generated in the local economy by those port workers spending their paychecks 657 indirect jobs when port businesses purchase goods and services from other businesses such as office supplies, utilities, and professional services 14,958 related jobs — people working for companies that can transport, repackage and warehouse cargo to be shipped through a Southeast port Source: Martin Associates 2009 economic impact study
