3. Severe Thunderstorms can produce:

The United States experiences about 100,000 thunderstorms a year – most frequently in Florida and the Gulf Coast region

5. Lightening When lightening strikes, energy is released.
This energy causes air to expand rapidly and send out sound waves.
Thunder – sound that results from rapid expansion of air along the lightning strike.
Have a balloon and blow it up. Cause friction and shock someone. This is lightening. Now pop the balloon. The rapid expansion of the air creates a sound, thunder

A tornado is a violent, whirling column of air in contact with the ground.
Strong wind from a thunderstorm spirals downward, creating a funnel cloud.
If it touches the ground, then it is a tornado.
