1 Can we apply our “3 Basic Steps” process to power a non-Aristo loco?
Easy choice – for my grandson… “Who’s a good guinea pig?”

2 Thomas the Tank Engine! (Lionel version)

3 1. Identify track power leads
Four spring-loaded brush pins – not the best constant contact with wheels but it works.

4 2. Identify motor leads Two wires, direct from track to motor – isolate them Removing the boiler completely we find the track leads feed directly to the can motor. We need to cut through midpoint of this set of wires and attach Bodnar Connectors.

5 Isolated Track and Motor leads:
Cap each set with a Bodnar Connector Motor leads on top from can motor – track leads on bottom… shrink tube over the splices.

6 Find a location for the receiver/adapter assembly
The ONLY place it can go, but it fits like a glove… Link button is accessible. The white motor compartment cover is a barrier though to this area… no problem…

7 Prepare two holes through the motor cover for the wires from the adapter to the motor/power

8 Two wires high, two wires low… Black/Red = Track Orange/Grey = Motor
Black/grey come off one side of adapter, red/orange come off the other.

9 Black/Red = Track Add shrink tube, splice; solder; heat tubes
Make sure you connect these to the connector end that matches the track feeder connector. Note the white cardboard soldering card to slip under the splices and heat shrinks.

10 Both sets done, with Bodnars ready
Black/Red to track power, Orange/Grey to the motor.

11 Both sets done AND the capacitor installed…ok, it needed THREE holes drilled
If I did it again I would attach the capacitor top down – it’s a flatter surface and sticks more reliably.

12 Completed install as seen from above with roof removed
Link button is available lower left corner…use a pencil - eraser end – or similar tool (flat screwdriver?)

13 Video of test run This video may not play on PowerPoint versions earlier than Office 2010…sorry.
