When runoff infiltrates the ground, it becomes groundwater.

3. The Location of Groundwater
Unsaturated Zone – rain water passes through this zone
Saturated Zone – where the water collects
These two zones meet at a boundary called the water table

5. Aquifers
A rock layer that stores groundwater and allows the flow of groundwater is called an aquifer

6. Aquifers
The more open spaces between particles in an aquifer, the more water the aquifer can hold
The percentage of open space between individual rock particles in a rock layer is called porosity
