Stanley’s great-grandfather found refuge on “God’s thumb” Kate kills the sheriff and flees Sam is killed on his boat; exchanges work at schoolhouse for canned peaches Sam and Katherine attempt to escape Green Lake The mob vs. Katherine & Sam Stanley sees a rock formation that looks like a fist with the thumb sticking up Zero hits Mr. Pendanski in the face with his shovel and flees Stanley and Zero find shelter in the Mary Lou boat and drink sploosh Stanley and Zero escape Camp Green Lake The boys vs. Stanley

Much of the backstory has been revealed, but what questions do we as readers have left unanswered? Who is the “A.G.” the Warden mentions? Will Stanley and Zero survive the unfriendly desert against the threats of dehydration and yellow-spotted lizards? Will Stanley and Zero find refuge at the God’s Thumb? What will they find there?
