1 SlamStick Procedure Stephen “Hobo” May CDR, USN PMA-265 PE-IPT
DISTRIBUTION STATEMENT E: Distribution authorized to DoD Components only, Operational Use, 13 January Other requests shall be referred to NAVAIRSYSCOM 00, Buse Road, Patuxent River, MD 20670 Date: 18 JUL 2018

2 Background FA-18 A-G family had no consistent cabin altitude recording system SlamSticks rolled out in 2016 via open purchase and shipped by PMA-265 to wings and squadrons to match BAA x2 Naval message directed their use and data downloading/uploading via FAME 171307Z OCT 17 GENADMIN/COMNAVSAFECEN/10/SEP// SUBJ/REVISED AVIATION PHYSIOLOGICAL EPISODE (PHYSEP) AND /PHYSIOLOGICAL EVENT (PE) REPORTING FOR ALL USN AND USMC /AIRCRAFT// Currently 2/3 of the fleet’s SlamStick/MU upload rates less than 50% (Aug18) Multitude of issues for this, largely though is lack of training and standardization Cabin pressure data correlation with aircraft MU data is crucial in analyzing the health and performance of the aircraft’s ECS system The near future will bring SOP to standardize compliance and improve data collection This slide should provide the “What” - Possibly include big picture takeaways from the RCCA Quad; recommend putting the quad in backup slides

3 Resources Follow these guides/briefs:
PMA-265 SlamStick Concept of Operations 8SEP17 SlamStick Training AZ - Configure PEMA - One-Time Only AZ - Configuration SlamStick – One-Time Only AZ – SlamStick Checklists SlamStick Operation Mide SlamStick Training Guide 1.8

4 Motherhood Pre-flight
Keep them fully charged (only use assigned docking/charging stations, non-standard charging cords may reduce battery life) Multi-place aircraft squadrons should designate SlamStick carrier for standardization, recommendation is pilot due to download pairing with MU card Aviator will turn the SlamStick on, verify activation and charge, when signing for the jet (AZ’s verify prior) SlamSticks should be placed in aviator’s left shoulder pocket (button skin side down) barring special exceptions, and should not go in helmet bags Sync time to match PEMA daily, required if SlamStick battery depleted (with revert to manufacturer time if battery depleted) XC flights consider bringing 2xSlamStick (1 for B/U) for reliability Order 1 per quarter for attrition, plan inventory for 2x BAA until CPOMS equipped

5 Motherhood Post-flight
As much as feasible, download SlamStick after each flight with MU Keep them fully charged (only use assigned docking/charging stations, non-standard charging cords may reduce battery life) Turn SlamStick off before inserting into PEMA with MU post-flight Download MU on FAME (SlamStick should start automatically after exiting debrief, if not, have AZ’z go to configure HMS as a FAME admin and click on administrative tab, then check automatically download box) Once downloading is complete, generate SlamStick Report, and note maximum rate of change, if >.6psi/sec maintenance action should be taken In the event of a PE, attach the IDE (SlamStick) and AAD (MU) files with the notification

6 Supply SlamSticks are available for order via the supply system:
SlamStick NSN; , cage code, 0ZEU0 SlamStick Charger NSN; , cage code, 4E2G0 SlamStick Cable NSN; , cage code, 3AF91

7 Future Cabin Pressure and OBOGS Monitoring System (CPOMS)
Fleet installs begin March 2019 Phase I will be basic replacement for the current analog cabin pressure gauge, will require manual download from the aircraft (method to be finalized) Phase II (~Aug 2020) will bring full integration with SCS and GGU-XX (follow-on OBOGS), CPOMS data will burn directly to MU
