2 Alliteration: Repetition of an initial consonant sound
 Ex: "And the serpent said unto the woman, "Ye shall not surely die.'" - from Genesis 3:4 Look carefully at the next 3 slides and identify what is odd about them.

6 Yes...all are ironic. Irony: A striking discrepancy between what is expected and what actually exists or occurs.

7 Dramatic Irony: The audience or reader knows an important fact that the character does not know.

8 Verbal Irony- a figure of speech in which what is said is the opposite of what is meant.

9 Imagery: Descriptive language that appeals to the senses in order to create specific effect
The many men, so beautiful! And they all dead did lie: And a thousand thousand slimy things Lived on; and so did I. 10 Metaphor: Speaking of one thing in terms of another as to imply a connect between the two.
Our relationship is rock solid. I would not change my mind even if you cried an ocean of tears.

11 Extended Metaphor: A metaphor that continues beyond the first comparison sentence. Could be an entire work. Ex: "I graduated from the University of Life. All right? I received a degree from the School of Hard Knocks. And our colors were black and blue, baby. I had office hours with the Dean of Bloody Noses. All right? I borrowed my class notes from Professor Knuckle Sandwich and his Teaching Assistant, Ms. Fat Lip Thon Nyun. 12 Onomatopoeia: Words that sound like sounds or sound like the thing or phenomenon they describe
