1 Organising The Dáil:Lesson Plan 2

2 Introduction The Dáil is the Lower House of the Oireachtas.
A Dáil Member's official Irish title is "Teachta Dála" which in English means "Deputy to the Dáil". Members are generally called "TDs" or "Deputies".

3 Speaker of the Dáil After a general election, the newly elected Dáil meets and elects the Ceann Comhairle, who acts as Chairman of the Dáil. The Ceann Comhairle makes sure that all TDs are treated fairly and that the rules of the House are followed

4 Standing Orders The correct terms of the rules of the Dáil is Standing Orders Look at the following slide which contains some of the current standing orders in the Dáil What do you notice about them?

6 The Work of a Clerk Clerks along with their staff are responsible for co-ordinating all the administration of the Dáil They advise on matters of procedure and organising policy advice and papers. Why do you think this would be important for the work of the Dáil?

7 Order Papers This is a document which sets out the business which the Dáil will deal with on a particular day
