1 Literacy is a Specific area within the EYFS Curriculum.

2 Early Learning Goals Writing
Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read. Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

3 Literacy Daily We share: ‘Books’ Video clips
To stimulate interest, share thoughts & ideas with ‘talk partner’’ For the topic of Traditional Tales we will read The Little Red Hen, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs.

5 Literacy Use ideas and model writing to: retell a story
write a description write a list write an invitation write a letter

6 Literacy Lessons Focus group will complete writing activity with support from teacher or teaching assistant Free choice activities will be linked to weekly theme and subject/letter sound, for example Role play area Puppet theatre Cutting & sticking Jigsaws Interactive whiteboard eg Education City Book corner

7 Child initiated learning opportunities in practise.

8 Oxford Reading Tree Books changed daily (Don’t worry if your child has not read all the book! Mark in the diary where they have read to so we can read with them or we know to send the same book home! Its not a race! Each child learns at their own pace!) Focus on character recognition How to hold a book and turn the pages Key words – action words to support recognition and writing Take home cards Segmenting and blending to decode Comprehension

9 How can you support your child at home?
Read on a daily basis. Talk to your children about their day. What have they learnt that’s new? What has been interesting today? Open your child up to new language. You are the child’s first and most influential educator! Use apps on ipads etc……… The Jolly phonics app can be downloaded and will help you learn how to say sounds in pure form alongside your child.
