If you didn’t see Audacity within “All Programs” you will need to install it: 1. Start 2. All Programs 3. Installers 4. Audacity

6 What Do I Need to Podcast?
Audacity software (sound recorder and editor) Microphone or headset Music and/or sound effects…

7 Get Organized! Best practice before recording in Audacity:
Create a folder called “Podcasting” on your H: drive You will be saving your Audacity project there Multiple files are created when saving your project These files must be stored together in the same folder

8 The Podcasting Process
Step 1: Plan the podcast Should be completed before going to the lab Step 2: Record the audio Step 3: Edit the podcast Step 4: Produce the podcast as an MP3 Step 5: Share the podcast on the web

9 STEP 2: Record the Audio Step 3: Edit the Podcast
Audacity allows you to record voice, sound effects Can create multiple, individual audio tracks Step 3: Edit the Podcast Cut, crop, split, fade, piece together your voice and music Music should set the tone of the podcast Emphasize the voice track by tweaking music volume Special effects can be added, but use wisely!

10 STEP 5: Share the Podcast
STEP 4: Produce the MP3 Only done when all editing is complete Audacity can produce the MP3 Easily shareable file format Best compromise of small file size and audio quality File > Export as MP3… STEP 5: Share the Podcast s Recommended method for students: Save to the I: drive > Handin folder Additional method will be forthcoming, which allows sharing online

11 About the Headset The microphone: Storing the headsets: Swivels down
Ideal position is ~2” from the mouth For working in groups, microphone can simply be held in front of the mouth Storing the headsets: How to prevent the cord from tangling (wrap around hand and hook onto microphone)
