Representative 2-D gel images of UC plasma from AGA (A) and IUGR (B) neonates are shown.
Representative 2-D gel images of UC plasma from AGA (A) and IUGR (B) neonates are shown. Proteins were separated on pH 4–7 linear IPG strips. The second dimension was carried out using 12% SDS-PAGE. Proteins were visualized using colloidal Coomassie Blue. Molecular mass markers are indicated on the right. Gel images were analyzed using PDQuest image processing software. Protein spots were matched, and their normalized optical densities were compared statistically. Spot numbers (same as those in Table II) of proteins found to be significantly up-regulated (underlined) or down-regulated in IUGR UC plasma are shown. Protein spots were excised and trypsin-digested for identification by MALDI-TOF-MS. C and D, enlarged images of regions within squares shown in A and B, respectively. Protein spots in ellipses represent fetuin-A isoforms. Group A corresponds to the acidic (heavy chain) and group B corresponds to the basic (single chain) forms of fetuin-A. Arrows indicate the IUGR-related isoforms (Al and Bl). Panagiotis M. Karamessinis et al. Mol Cell Proteomics 2008;7: © 2008 The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
