4 KNOWLEDGE FOR ACTION NBLP Program Overview 4 Vision: To be the experiential leadership development program at Wharton that educates MBA students on nonprofit board governance. Mission: To develop MBA students as leaders who seek a life-long commitment to community involvement and board service, resulting in value creation for nonprofit organizations and communities. 6 KNOWLEDGE FOR ACTION You Should Apply to be a Coordinator if… You are a first-year MBA student – students not on campus for full 2 years are not eligible You want to develop your own leadership skills You have prior nonprofit board experience You want to promote nonprofit involvement at Wharton You are looking for a leadership position that provides the opportunity to shape a social impact initiative at Wharton Non Profit Board Leadership Program 6

7 KNOWLEDGE FOR ACTION NBLP Coordinator Role Be a peer leader for the next two years in a peer leadership role that requires flexibility, adaptability, situational awareness, and personal investment. Engage with coordinator team to shape program through recruitment, selection, and development of Board Fellows community. Mentor 8 Board Fellows through challenges in monthly pod and one-on-one meetings – e.g., managing board conflicts, role discussions, etc. Non Profit Board Leadership Program 7

8 KNOWLEDGE FOR ACTION Coordinator vs. Board Fellow Roles Coordinators: Have prior board experience 2-year commitment Lead and mentor 8-member pod of Board Fellows Develop relationships with Coordinator Team and Board Fellows pod Lead NBLP trainings (i.e., 2 full- day trainings and monthly mastermind meetings ) for Board Fellows Board Fellows: No prior board experience 1-year commitment Engage with a local non-profit board as non-voting member Develop relationships within your nonprofit and Board Fellows pod Participate in trainings, speaker events, and case discussions with 40 other Board Fellows Non Profit Board Leadership Program 8

9 KNOWLEDGE FOR ACTION Fall 2013: Coordinator kick- off and planning for spring recruitment Jan - Mar 2014: Recruitment and selection of new board fellows April 2014: Spring training and onboarding new board fellows Aug 2014 onwards: Fall training in Aug; monthly speaker and case study sessions Regular pod meetings and one-on-ones with Coordinators and other Fellows; Monthly board activities NBLP Coordinator Timeline Non Profit Board Leadership Program 9

12 KNOWLEDGE FOR ACTION Key Dates Information Sessions: September 23 @ 4:30pm (G88) September 26 @ noon (G86) Office Hours to talk to the current Coordinators: September 24th, 12:00 – 1:00, MBA Café September 25th, 1:30 – 2:30, MBA Café Application due Sunday, October 6, at 11:59pm Submit through applicant stackapplicant stack Interviews will be held during the week of October 14 Decisions will be announced in mid-October Non Profit Board Leadership Program 12
