Welcome to Mrs. Cole’s Class!

About the Teacher My name is Dawn Cole.
I am from Star, Mississippi. I have a sweet husband and 2 sweet daughters. Our family pet, Romo, also doubles as the school’s mascot, LES!

Homework Binder Please clean out the class work section daily and keep the work to help study for tests. The weekly newsletter and study guides are located in the folder and should be utilized as a study tool daily. Each Monday we will replace the previous week’s newsletter with the current one. The newsletter will tell you important events going on and coming up in our classroom and our school. Please sign that you have read the weekly news and your child will receive an extra penny. Study guides need to be studied each night so that your child will be ready for the content test.

Homework Students will receive a homework syllabus on Mondays with the week’s homework attached. You may follow the suggested schedule or do it as you wish. All homework is due on Fridays and is checked for completion. Students are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes each night. They should read CKLA stories located in their homework packets. They may also read a book of their choice and take ARP tests when they return to school. You may check your child’s ARP progress through Renaissance at home. Directions for log in will be given tonight before you leave.

Test Schedule All tests and dates will be located on the weekly newsletter and syllabus. Tests include: Cold Read – The students are given a grade level passage and comprehension questions that go with the passage. Spelling - Spelling will include the words that are sent home on their Spelling Study Guide. These words will go with their CKLA Skills unit each week. Language Test- Students will receive a Language practice sheet in homework packets each week. The test is very similar. Comprehension Tests- Given from each Unit in CKLA. Students will learn this material in class. Sprint Tests- Sprints are practiced daily and sent home in a page protector to study each night. The best way to do this is to time them for a minute and a half using a dry erase marker. Math Module Tests- Given mid module and end of module. Test reviews will be sent home before each test. Social Living- We will have Science and Social Studies Content tests and projects. This will be sent home two weeks before each test.

Test Papers I send test papers home on Wednesdays. They need to be signed and returned by Friday of each week. Please go through the tests with your child and correct errors made. Sign and return all tests in the folder.

Classroom Management To encourage positive behavior, we have a classroom store each month. Throughout the week the students will earn 2 pennies for getting an A for daily behavior. They will do this by following all School and classroom rules. If they leave with any other grade other than A, they do not get their pennies for the day. They will mark their letter grade daily and put a number describing their infraction if their letter grade is not A.

Computers Students have access to numerous computer programs. They will work on these programs each week during class time. Some of the programs can be accessed from home. Please encourage your students to work on these at home. Zearn for Math Review Lexia for Reading Comprehension and Phonics We will send passwords and log ins as they become available.

Contact Me: The fastest way to communicate with me is through . I check it at least three times a day. My address is: sbpsb.org If you would like to set up a conference my planning time is 2:40- Monday and Thursday. Please access our website located on our Lacoste Elementary school page under TEACHERS. We will have newsletters and class information updated regularly.
