2 Working Group A – Ecological Status
Continuation of intercalibration Supervision on Eutrophication guidance Harmonisation and monitoring aspects Organisation, timetable and interim steps described in intercalibration guidance Link with PRB encouraged Co-leads JRc, DE, UK will continue No comments received, no open issue

3 Working Group C – Groundwater
During ongoing codecision process, focus of activities in WG C on information exchange and issues primarily covered in WFD (not Daughter Directives) Mandate will be revised following the conclusions of the codecision Activities on protected areas, monitoring, discharges and link to EUWI-MED aspects Three/four workshops planned for 2005 Groundwater conference 2006

4 Working Group D – Reporting
Key activities: addition of GIS Development of WISE Activity sheets Guidance for reporting under the WFD: Update of sheet to meet latest developments Development of part of reporting guidance on monitoring (end 2005) and RBMP (mid 2007) State of Environment: to be reviewed by drafting group

6 Working Group D – GIS Expert Network
Revitalisation of GIS experts Support to WG D – GIS as tool for reporting Workshops and Drafting Teams Key issues: coding (ESTAT), common GIS dataset (JRC) and process of reporting (DG ENV) Work based on drafting teams and workshops - Next workshop in April/May 2005 Comments of GIS experts (workshop 15/11) incorporated

7 New activity on chemical monitoring
New activity to support groundwater and priority substances WGs (joint sub-group) Issues relating to chemical pollutants provided by WFD (Art. 16, 17 and Annex V) to be addressed by joint experts Ultimately, development of specific guidance Draft mandate for discussion NOT agreement Draft mandate should be further consulted with WG C and EAF PS and ad-hoc workshop of monitoring specialists in Spring 2005 Final decision on mandate on next WD meeting

8 Draft Conclusions No major open issues identified Water Directors are invited to endorse mandates for WG ECOSTAT (A), Groundwater (C), Reporting (D) and GIS experts Water Directors are invited to support the further development of a mandate on “chemical monitoring” and agree to hold an ad-hoc workshop in Spring 2005 – final draft mandate should be presented on next WD meeting
