2 The Who Am I Game Now I get to find out what I want to know about you!
6 Cards 43 Pictures As quickly as possible, identify as many as you can; as accurately as you can! Your table versus everyone else… What will I be learning?

3 Conclusion/Reflections:
Teamwork requires Respect “The impossible is often the untried!” Jim Goodwin Together Everyone Achieves More Success So How Do We Individually Strive for Success?

4 Scientific Observations
In the Scientific Method Review: What are the steps of the scientific method?

5 The Scientific Method The Scientific Method is a series of steps to follow that help answer a question or solve a problem - There are 5 main steps (sometimes 6 ;)

6 Step 1: Ask a Question- Define a Purpose
Scientists ask questions based on observations from their surroundings What would be a scientific question we tested in Monday’s experiment?

7 Step 2: Research your info and then, form a Hypothesis
Take an educated guess about what you think the answer is to your question How and what did we research?

8 Step 3: Test your hypothesis (procedure)
Set up an experiment to test your question. This needs to include your detailed hypothesis with 3 different variables!

9

10 Step 4: Analyze Your Results
Look at your results and decide what they tell you about your question DATA

11

12

13 Step 5: Form a Conclusion
Decide what the answer to your question is and ask: Was my hypothesis right or wrong? Do I need to do the experiment again to find out more?

14

15 Types of Variables There are 3 main types of variables:
Independent Variable: The variable that is changed by the scientist; the ‘I control’ variable Dependent Variable: The variable that might change because of what the scientist changes – what is being measured Control Variables: conditions that are kept the same during the experiments.

16 Remember! Your hypothesis can TELL you what your variables are!
Ex. If I drink Mountain Dew before bed, then I will not sleep very much. IV: Drinking Mountain Dew DV: the amount of sleep Control Variables: same bed, same person, same time of night…

17 Use this hypothesis to identify the variables:
Practice Use this hypothesis to identify the variables: Hypothesis: If I leave all the lights on all day, then my electric bill will be expensive. IV: ______________________ DV: ______________________ Control Variables: ________________ ______________________________

18 Hypothesis: If I do not manage my study skills, then my grades will begin to drop.
IV: ______________________ DV: ______________________ Control Variables: _______________ _____________________________

19 Now read the following experiment and identify the independent and dependent variables
Elizabeth wanted to test if temperature affected how fast milk goes bad and curdles. She left milk in a room temperature closet, a fridge, and a oven that was turned on low heat. She then measured how rotten the milk was after 10 days. IV: ____________________________________ DV: ____________________________________ Hypothesis: ___________________________ Control Variables:___________________ _______________________________________

20 ____ Label the independent and dependent variables?
Graph Checklist: Did You: ____ Label the independent and dependent variables? ____ Put all the values on your y-axis by 10’s? ____ Put all your values by 10’s on your x-axis? ____ Give your graph a name?
