To responsibly provide municipal services that enhance the quality of life of our citizens, encourage commerce and industry, and promote the health, safety and general welfare of the community. Organizational Vision Within thirty (30) years, the City of Denison will be known as a thriving, regional leader that other communities strive to be like, and where people consciously decide to live and locate their businesses. It will be a beautiful City, with quality, well maintained housing for all income levels. It will serve as a regional employment center and provide a rich and varied shopping experience. It will be a community that offers regionally renowned parks and recreation facilities and it will be well known for enjoying an excellent quality of life.

4 Program Timeline Staff began researching in mid-2017
Staff presented to Council during the budget workshop in Spring 2018 Sub-committee created with two Councilmembers and staff to vet options moving forward Purchase of equipment was approved during the budget process Staff purchased three automated trash trucks in late 2018 Cart examples were received and tested Council approved the loan to purchase carts and trucks in January 2019 Council approved the ordinance, effective April 1, outlining new program Carts purchased in January 2019 Public Meetings conducted throughout February Council will be presented with fee recommendations for additional cart(s) Cart delivery begins March 18th Program roll-out city-wide on April 1, 2019

5 95-Gallon Cart Each residence will be provided with one 95-gallon cart
Delivered middle of March Trash placed into the cart is required to be bagged Recommended to keep lids closed at all times After the first week of April, if one cart is not sufficient, an additional cart may be requested for a monthly fee

6 Cart Storage Storage of carts must be within 6 feet of the residential structure Carts can be on the side, in front of or in a garage Must be removed from the curb within 24 hours of collection

7 Trash pick-up Unacceptable items include:
Construction debris Paint Hot ashes Oil Corrosive solvents Car batteries Hazardous Waste All trash days will remain the same 95-gallon cart must be used No bags or boxes placed outside of the cart If bags or boxes are placed outside of the cart, it will not be picked up Lids must be closed for collection

8 Household Hazardous Waste
Texoma Council of Governments hosts a hazardous waste collection event every 2 years Residents are encouraged to bring any hazardous waste on April 20, 2019 Event held from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Grayson County College 6101 Grayson Drive (FM 691)

9 Cart Placement Carts must be placed at the curb by 6:30am of your designated pickup day They should be placed at least 3 feet from your recycling cart and mailboxes and no more than 1 foot from the street Carts should be clear of utility poles, mailboxes, trees and parked cars.

10 Trash Bags February 2019 - last free delivery
Bags will be sold until supply runs out Receiving the last shipment during spring 2019 to be sold Available for purchase at Utility Billing office until supply sells out

11 Recycling Waste Connections will continue to collect recycling every other week All recycling items must be loose in the cart – no bags Lids must close Acceptable Items include: Aluminum cans Cardboard Glass bottles or jars Newspapers Plastics 1-5 & 7 Steel/Tin cans Shredded paper in clear bag Unacceptable Items include: Hazardous waste Food contaminated cardboards or containers (ex. Pizza box) Aluminum foil Styrofoam

12 Bulk Waste Spring cleanup in April will be replaced with more frequent bulk pickups Bulk pick-up will be every other month February, April, June, August, October and December Up to 2 cubic yards Unacceptable items include: Construction debris by private contractor Hazardous waste All bulk waste must be placed at the curb by 6:30am on Monday for collection of designated week Bags are accepted

13 Brush Waste Brush pick-up will be every other month
January, March, May, July, September and November Must be placed in one manageable pile no larger than 5 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet No trash bags will be accepted All brush waste must be placed at the curb by 6:30am on Monday for collection of designated week

15 Courtesy Carry-out Service will be offered
Residents will need to apply or reapply and provide doctor’s certification Certification will need to be done yearly Staff will be reaching out to all of those who currently receive porch pick-up

16 Commercial Bags Commercial customers who have bags for trash collection will be affected by this change All commercial businesses who are able to have a 3 yard dumpster, will be given a dumpster Businesses that do not have a place for a dumpster will be given a 95-gallon cart Staff will be reaching out to businesses that are affected by this change

17 Residential Collection Station
Day Hours Sunday Closed Monday 8 am – 5 pm Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday 8 am - Noon Type of Waste Fee per cubic yard Brush and Limbs Three cubic yards per month Free Each additional cubic yard $3* Solid Waste One cubic yard per month $5* Unacceptable Waste: Chemicals, Commercial waste, Dead animals, Hazardous waste, Shingles, Wet paint * Tax is applied to all refuse services. The current tax rate is 8.25%.

18 Special Pick Ups Continue to offer scheduled special pick ups through the Public Works Department Anything that exceeds the bulk and brush size limits If you need to schedule a special pick up, please contact the Public Works Department at x2451 If you need to report junk at the curb, please contact Code Enforcement at or via the City’s mobile app
