Over production of food and other goods America produced (surplus)
Investment in economy of other countries = political influence in those countries
Minor C. Keith (an American) provided Costa Rican gov’t financial support - in return he was given long term leases for land and railroad lines (exported 50 million bunches of bananas a year to U.S. and dominated the economies of Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras = some people calling Central American nations as banana republics)
