1 Accuracy of Unenhanced MRI in the Detection of New Brain Lesions in Multiple Sclerosis
In 507 follow-up images, only 1.9 % (four of 1996) new or enlarged multiple sclerosis lesions would have been missed with 3.0-T MRI without the administration of contrast material. With 3.0-T MRI, the assessment of interval progression did not differ between contrast-enhanced and nonenhanced images. In a 32-year-old with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, T1 subtraction (T1sub), FLAIR, and double inversion recovery (DIR) images show a new, small, subcortical lesion (arrow) in right parietal lobe, seen only on contrast-enhanced image; it was overlooked on DIR and FLAIR images. Several other lesions that can be seen on nonenhanced images.  Eichinger P et al. Published Online: Mar 12, 2019
