1 Density Notes Science Tennessee SPI Objective:
Apply an equation to determine the density of an object based on its mass and volume. Instructions for Students 1) Make sure you view this presentation in slideshow mode. 2) You can find instructions about how to do this by doing a Google search or by searching YouTube. 3) After you have it in slideshow mode, press the right-arrow keyboard button to advance through the presentation. 4) If you need help, please communicate with your teacher. Check for Understanding Calculate the density of various objects. Essential Question(s) 1) What is density? 2) What is mass, and how do I measure it? 3) What is volume, and how do I measure it? 4) How do I calculate density? 5) How do I multiply and divide with decimals without a calculator?

2 Answer: 2.5 g/cm3 2 . 5 Density = 10 25 . -___ 20 5 -___ 5 0 0 0 g/cm3
Solve the Density Problem Shown Below Do not use a calculator Round to the hundredths place Show all of your work Calculate the density of an object with a mass of 25g and a volume of 10cm3 Reminder: The mouse goes in the house (mass is the mouse!) 2 . 5 Density = . Units… g/cm3 -___ 20 5 -___ 5 0 0 0 Answer: 2.5 g/cm3

4 SPI 0807.9.7 Density Notes 4.6 g/cm3 3.7 g/cm3 2.7 g/cm3 4.0 g/cm3
Which cube below has the LEAST density? Do not use a calculator. Compute density on your paper while I work it on the board. Round to the tenths place. Notes Science Show all your work, and don't Forget Your Units! written like this…g/cm3 (A) Mass: 23g Volume: 5cm3 (B) Mass: 11g Volume: 3cm3 4.6 g/cm3 3.7 g/cm3 (C) Mass: 19g Volume: 7cm3 (D) Mass: 12g Volume: 3cm3 Least Dense 2.7 g/cm3 4.0 g/cm3

5 SPI Density Answer this question. Again, do not use a calculator, and show all your work. Compute the density on your paper while I work it on the board. Notes Science Answer 9 g/cm3 Density= volume mass Density=

6 SPI 0807.9.7 Notes Density 1 g/ml 0.8 g/ml 1.08 g/ml 0.9 g/ml
Answer this question. Do not use a calculator. Work it out on your paper while I do it on the board. Show all your work. Notes Science Don't Forget Your Units! written like this…g/ml Sample A D= Sample B D= Sample C D= Sample D D= Sample A 1 g/ml Sample B 0.8 g/ml Sample C 1.08 g/ml Sample D 0.9 g/ml
