1 Do We Know How to BLUSH? Jeremiah 6:11-15 8:8-12
Jeremiah 6:11-15; 8:8-12 (READ) [Conditions shortly before Judah’s fall to Babylon] Israel’s two-fold problem: Abominations – Here a reference to idolatry (cf. 4:1) [Typical. Idols, or practice of idolatry] Shamelessness (Our topic for today) Modern society, too, seems to no longer know how to blush — no sense of shame. Open and brazen displays of sin. Nothing considered shameful. (Sexual perversion & promiscuity; Immodesty; Profanity; Drunkenness; Illicit drug use; hatred of Biblical values; lying; cheating, etc., etc., etc.) Emphasis in our society on removing all inhibitions. (Inhibition & Shame can certainly be good things!)

2 Good people need to know how to blush!
An active sense of shame! To protect us in a world of sin (Genesis 2:25; 3:9-11, 21) To draw us back when we fall (2 Thessalonians 3:14) Good people need to know how to blush — an active sense of shame. To protect us in a world of sin. (Genesis 2:25), [Before sin entered world], “And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” (Genesis 3:9-11, 21), “Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, "Where are you?“ 10 So he said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.“ 11 And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?“ (21), “Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.” To draw us back when fallen. (2 Thessalonians 3:14), “And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed.” Shame serves as a check to sin, and an impetus for repentance. (2 Corinthians 7:11), “For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter.” We need to blush at all sin, but let us notice some things the Bible specifically associates with shame.

3 CONDUCT Associated With Shame
Deviant Moral Conduct (Romans 1:27-32) All Unrighteous Conduct (Romans 6:20-21) Conduct Associated with Shame Deviant moral conduct. (Romans 1:27-32), “Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” All unrighteous conduct. (Romans 6:20-21), “For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.”

4 SPEECH Associated With Shame
Wholesome Speech Important (Ephesians 4:29) Certain Speech by Women (1 Corinthians 14:34-35) Unspeakable things (Ephesians 5:11-12) Speech Associated with Shame Wholesome speech is important. (Ephesians 4:29), “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” Certain speaking by women. (1 Corinthians 14:34-35), “Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. 35 And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.” Some things shameful to speak of (Ephesians 5:11-12), “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.” Some words should not used Some ideas should not be expressed (Colossians 3:8-9a), “But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another…”

Should conceal nakedness (Exodus 28:42), [Aaron & Sons, priestly garb], “And you shall make for them linen trousers to cover their nakedness; they shall reach from the waist to the thighs.” Should not be seductive (Proverbs 7:10), [A young man, devoid of understanding], “And there a woman met him, with the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.” Should be modest (1 Timothy 2:9,10), “in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.” MODEST” - “orderly, well-arranged, decent, modest”...”of good behavior (1 Tim. 3:2 KJV)”. 6 Conclusion Don’t forget how to blush!
Parents, teach your children a proper sense of shame! Conclusion: A. Christians must not forget how to blush. B. Parents should teach children proper sense of shame. (Jeremiah 6:15-16), “Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed; Nor did they know how to blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall; At the time I punish them, They shall be cast down," says the Lord.16 Thus says the Lord: "Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, 'We will not walk in it. ‘” Do not be like “THEY”. Seek the old paths, that you need not be ashamed.
