John 11:45-57

(Joh 20:30) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: (Joh 20:31) But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Desperation of unbelief

The influence of the believer

(Joh 11:45) Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

(Joh 11:36-37) Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him
(Joh 11:36-37) Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him! And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

(2Co 3:2-3) Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

(Mat 5:16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

II. The ignorance of the unbeliever

(Joh 11:46) But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

(Pro 16:25) There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

(Luk 12:51) Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth
(Luk 12:51) Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

(2Th 2:10-12) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

III. The illogical thinking of the council

A. Their thoughts were to reason out the problem

(Joh 11:47) Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.

B. Their thoughts were more about their position

(Joh 11:48) If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.

C. Their thoughts were about their profit

(Joh 11:49-50) And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

D. Their thoughts were pointless

(Joh 11:53) Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

IV. The inspiration given to the High priest

(Joh 11:51-52) And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

V. The impact of the prophecy

(Joh 11:51-52) And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

(Joh 1:9) That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
(Joh 1:29) The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

(Joh 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (Joh 10:16) And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

(Joh 12:32) And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
(Joh 17:20) Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
